While there are many ways to install Windows such as using a virtual machine, the primary way to install the Technical Preview is by using a secondary spare PC, and because burning an ISO DVD is overrated, creating a bootable USB installation media is the way to go.

There are more than one way to go creating a bootable USB installation media for Windows 10, however there is only one way that is the easiest, that is using the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool. Yes, this application works like wonders.

  • Head over the Microsoft download center and grab a copy of the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool.
  • Install the tool in your system – you know, double-click, next, next, next…
  • If you haven’t done it already, head to the Windows Insider website, sign-up and download a version of the Windows 10 Technical Preview.
  • Connect a USB flash drive (it should be equal or larger than 4GB of space) to your computer. Also make sure you don’t have anything important in the drive since during this process all that data will be erased.
  • Open the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool, click Browse and localize the Windows 10 Technical Preview ISO file, and click Open.
  • Click USB Device, choose the USB drive to create the installation media, and hit Begin copying.
