iMessage has different screen effects that can accompany different messages. Although many find these fun and goofy, others can find these effects to be annoying, especially when some effects continue to replay automatically. Luckily, you can turn off the iMessage effects on your device, which will disable them from continuing to play automatically on your device.

Disable Message Effects on iMessage

To disable these screen effects on your iPhone/iPad:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on the home screen of your device.

  2. In the Settings menu, scroll down and tap on “Accessibility.”

  3. Scroll down and tap on “Motion,” which is located under the Vision category.

  4. Here, use the toggle to disable “Auto-Play Message Effects.”

That’s it. Now you’ll be able to easily disable and enable iMessage effects on your device. Keep in mind that this setting will not automatically turn off Message effects on your device in their entirety. This setting will only prevent the screen effects and bubble effects from playing back automatically. That means no Slam, Loud, Gentle, or Invisible Ink bubbles, nor any Echo, Spotlight, Balloons, Confetti, Love, Lasers, Fireworks, Shooting Star, or Celebration screen effects.

However you can still choose to manually replay these effects at your convenience by choosing the “Replay” option right below the text bubble.

If you’re on a device running iOS 12 or earlier, you’ll need to turn on the “Reduce Motion” feature before disabling the Auto-PlayMessage Effects.

You can also choose to customize your iMessage experience even further by changing the bubble color of the messages. Do you like the iMessage effects on your device, or are you going to keep the effects off on your device? Let us know in the Comments section below.
